He keeps going back to gain just one little bit more, but he actually losses more each time. He gains more repeats of Groundhog Day, but has less and less to show for it every time the alarm goes off.
One day, soon, it will go off for the last time.
He loses more each time because of the nature of salvation.
With each pass, a few more are saved.
Once saved, they are eternally sealed. This CANNOT be changed by any time travel hijinks.
Every trip through, less and less are susceptible to the manipulation.
More energy must be used for a smaller result.
It's a losing game.

Even if this crap has a million more repeats, at the End, I go to Heaven to be forever with the God who loves me, not suffering an isolated doom in the eternal darkness burning in hell.
