yes. we learned how to use の then some guy got called on to translate "mary's friend" and he said "mary-san's ともだち"
ofc the professor explained he had the right word but still used english grammar. the guy then tried again with "メアリーさん's ともだち"

then at the end of class he was showing pictures of stuff with hira on it to call on people to read since we've learned all the characters now. someone got called on to read "とまと" on a box of round red vegetables and couldn't figure it out
