I think it's pretty based.
My interpretation of it is that, the protagonist is a marginal kind of guy, a looser, and he tries to save himself by getting a chick, but fails. When he gives up and tries to save a little girl, not for selfish reasons but because it was the right thing to do, he saves himself and becomes the fucking hero.
I think it's an interesting message very relevant nowadays.
