Having kids nowadays is a lifestyle or a continuation of your lineage depending on your worldview and values.
Lets go with the "continuation of lineage" part.
It's relative to the value of yourself, your family, your family name, your intelligence.
If you're a midwit npc then you'll go for the lifestyle path or chose to remain childless completely.
If you're intelligent and motivated enough to build up your name (if you havent one already) and bring value, pride and glory to your family tree then it's absolutely logical for you to have kids.
