i equated そちらこそ to 'you too', for some reason. the girl ran after me and basically said i told her to fuck off.
i would often mistake the relative strength of words. 'urusai' definitely means shut up. made my friend mad. 'saitei' is probably too strong a word to describe something you only vaguely dislike.
i'd play around with formality levels too because i didn't understand them. said gokurou san to that friend instead of otsukare san. made him mad.
he was a good friend come to think of it he put up with a lot. :/ its okay i started studying like a not-subhuman and learned it properly eventually lol
