But on some real shit, let me educate you on pre-gun weaponry.
The comparison you're making is extremely stupid. You're comparing a dueling weapon to a sparring weapon. The Katana is meant for 1 decisive cut out of resting position, while the Longsword is meant as a versatile sparring weapon.
Although they were worn by high ranking officials, katanas were never used in war by militia. Instead the japanese would usually opt to equip their men with glaives or spears, which give back a huge return in survival rates. Katanas were actually used as personal defense weapons and ritual weapons, think of them as Rapiers, but not as gay.
To translate this in the gun world, The Longsword is an Assault Rifle, the Katana is a handgun.
Different purposes.
Sabers are just autistic, the way they are made makes them either extremely brittle or dull. You simply can't make a wide sword with heft and width disproportionately focused at the end of its length and still keep it long enough to actually use without losing a hand + being manageable.
