Keep in mind viruses are merely a step above simpler molecules such as proteins, so it is entirely possible that trace amounts are left behind in the aftermath once they dissolve. Or perhaps if they cannot isolate it, they instead gather immune cells from the animals which already have information about how to deal with the virus and give it to the patient. (the remnant information could be transmitted to the patient once its immune systems detects them and kills them). This second option I think is just my inner retard speaking. First one seems more like it
