>>10573971to be perfectly honest i haven't done much concrete research about opportunities that specific. i'm really not that picky what i do for work outside of a few key factors so it hasn't been weighing on my mind too much. at the end of the day a japanese degree sounds very fun to pursue and if i fail to leave the US most jobs don't care what degree you have as long as you have one. that's why the current plan is to pursue the degree and use the infrastructure of the college to look for opportunities as i near graduation since there's a ton of networking to be done and the schools around here value their graduate employment rate statistics so they shove students at businesses as is.
particularly since we have study abroad programs it should be a lot easier to go looking for opportunities as a student than try to line them up for far in the future
>>10573982that doesn't necessarily matter at all. sometimes a software developer will become a project lead will become a director managing multiple projects but that's the exception rather than the rule. there's almost always a pretty clear divide between on the floor workers and management to the point that for something like a project lead being able to understand coding jargon and explain it to the person above them in the least technical terms possible is a necessary skill.
my understanding is that the difference in technical know how between administration for a software developer and a steel manufacturer is next to nothing.
