Here one of old food preservation methods was making sterilized food canisters more hermetic by sealing joint with wax. Was used on juice bottles. dip that screw cork in hot wax, and let it solidify around.
Might be worth to think about a bit, is there way how to make longer food storage solutions with food grade wax (likely electricity will not be available), and if there is way how to do it, then to purchase a bit food grade wax (if it is cheap and available in area). In case, when you have some food available, but have no idea when electricity will came back. Prepare some jam, and put it in storage.
