I think it is because my Dad had loads of dogs when I was growing up but he thought it was hilarious to get them to attack you (not really attack you because they were on a leash but just go for you). For example he had a huge pitbull and he used to "sic" it on me and would just stand laughing while it went for me. He was/is a crack addict as well so he wasn't exactly stable. Anyway, I've always been terrified of dogs since I was a kid.
