This gets to a deeper point, which is that religion rises and falls depending on how difficult life becomes. The west lives in a mouse utopia, which is why we have forgotten God. Most people growing up 100 years ago experienced the death of siblings, and were raised with an inner toughness to cope. Modern people lack a belief and inner toughness, so when it falls apart they will suffer most, and they will return to a belief in God. When you understand all this, you no longer hate organized religion and cease to be a militant atheist.
