Good Merino wool hiking socks have two layers of fabric on parts where the foot presses against the shoe (heel, toes etc) this prevents rubbing which causes blisters. Blisters are a bitch if you walk a lot, it's best to prevent them. If you get them, picrel is your friend. You get instant pain relief and you can keep walking without problems. They also have some shit in them that makes blisters heal faster. If you have new shoes, it's always a good idea to pre-tape your problem areas on your foot.
