But frankly whatever errors Bethesda made crafting them I never got a sense of hostility towards the continuity of the franchise existing from Fallout 1. Indeed I'd say they took pains too far in a few cases. The same could be said for the Star Wars prequels and star trek enterprise. They could be shitty, with bad acting and silly plots, but they *cared* about what came before.
Diablo Immortal, Fallout 76, The Last Jedi, ST: Discovery. They categorically stand in opposition to what people liked about the prior entries while at the same time riding their coattails.
And again, the weird common thread isn't just that they were poorly made or some things were off. It's that when anyone voiced criticism about it the producers one and all responded with "we didn't make it for you to like"
