>>2197503I'm not going to encourage you to use a radio without the license but most everyone starts out with a dualband (2 meter and 70 centimeter) handheld. They will only work for a limited range (I can simplex about 14 miles with most of mine and hitting a repeater will give me several counties).
You'll need to understand how repeaters work and how to program the TX +/- and PLs to hit the repeaters. I suggest using CHIRP and a programming cable. You can just DL the list of repeaters for your area and clone it to the radio.
If you want to listen to the World Wide Shortwave (the stations on the SKYKANGZ Radio), you'll need an HF Receiver (All Band).
To broadcast globally, you'll need something like in OP's pic.
