>>16509878There's actually one specific situation where you really have to worry about it.
You have to pull a back-up strategy in one of the levels if you mess up the initial one, and you end up needing health over 50 to do a jump in order to keep going.
The problem is, there are about 3 knights in the area that you need to do make the jump in.
So, if one of them attacks you for even a quarter of a second, you die if you try to make the jump. This is really annoying.
There's a safe way to do it, by just standing back and killing all the knights then doing the jump, but it's really slow compared to going ahead. Considering that you're already doing a back-up strat, at that point you might as well start over.
So, if you try to make the jump but get tapped by one of the knights as you're doing it, you're dead. It's not that much of a loss when it happens, but it's one of those things that makes you sigh. And goes to show how fucked up knights are.
Oh, there's also another instance of AI autism that I forgot to mention.
It's doesn't happen very often after you learn how to b-hop well, but it still slows you down every once in a while if you get unlucky enough.
E1M1, right at the start. You have to cross this bridge, and on the other side there's a grunt and his dog. You probably recognize this if you've ever played the game at any point.
Anyway, so, you being on the other side of the bridge really confuses the AI. They don't understand what's going on, so, they just move around to the side randomly, much like the fiends I talk about before.
But the dog that's there, that's the problem. It's one of the faster moving enemies in the game I think, so, his movements are way more spastic. He can actually get in front of your path as you're crossing the bridge almost every single time if you don't know how to hop fast enough.
