"Smart kid" meant something in 80's. Back in the 80's being "a smart kid" was a unique thing, teachers, movies, cultures were all designed around teaching us the ups and downs of our caste. You got praise from teachers but you also got your ass kicked at recess. It wasn't necessarily a GOOD thing to be a "smart kid" in the 80's and it still isn't.
Then things changed and "nerd" became marketable. Now every 30 IQ Webcam whore and their legion of reddit coomer simps call themselves "nerds" bcuz "omg i have glasses and play vidya".
