it's not just "hurr durr you like the simpler book", no, lotr is just extremely slow paced and boring, it's not full of lore, and the story doesn't advance
I use to read mainstream fantasy books as a kid, I read the harry potters, narnias, lotr, eragons, gahool and the one with the cats
I would say the best written were by far the hobbit, then eragon, then narnia, the rest going from still fun and intresting to mostly boring (later narnia books)
