If you're active at all in the stock market you should base your trades on your actual strategy, not on taxes, potential margin calls (don't put yourself in that situation in the first place), income, etc. Basing trades on anything other than a solid strategy introduces competing imperatives and will probably end up losing more in the end than what you thought you would "save"
