It's the fact that Jesus died in perfect love of God and love for his persecutors, despite all the shit they put Him through, He never returned evil back to them. Nobody that is born of the earth lives like that. Only His love is that great, and the fact that a human loved THAT much, is what pleased the Lord.
It's kinda confusing, because we can't see things from God's perspective. From our perspective, Jesus loves us so much that He died for us. I don't know how else to explain it.
In The Agony in the Garden, Jesus saw all of your sins, He saw that you could not be satisfied with yourself before God, and so He chose to carry your sins for you, even though He didn't deserve it.
There's also the aspect about "the world killing truth-tellers" at play here. The Lord was killed because He spoke the truth. The world kills people who tell the truth (see: The Jews). Jesus died for the truth, you fail to die for the truth. He did what you could not, and He did it on your behalf.
I hope that helps. It's important to remember that these explanations will not make you believe - that is between you and the Lord. Pray for faith and God bless, anon.
