i only developed the habit for doing all the over the top stuff because i felt that the mechanics of 5e are painfully uninteresting on their own and the setting is pretty standard high fantasy so the story HAS to hard carry the game.
now that i've got something that i think isbetter in general it isn't as necessary to go to such great lengths
