That's obviously an Italian painting so we can assume the characters are Italian too, but they would not look out of place in England or Greece either. Europeans all have very similar standards of beauty so the attractive few can pass for the ideal in any country. People insisting all Europeans are white are saying such because they're looking at the attractive members of every European ethnicity. They should be looking at the unattractive members of each European ethnicity where there is more variety.
