My father and grandfathers survived the black hail that destroyed the southern Brazilian agriculture by plating squash.
My father to this day refuses to eat them because he had fucking enough, kek, everyday in his youth he would eat a squash made in a different way.
The way he taught me how to plant is using ashes, if you burn a part of the plot and let the rain wash it or irrigate, you can sow the seeds of squash.
They didn't know anything about the chemistry of how the alkaline ash made the soil less acidic and also softned the seed husk so it sprout faster, but they did anyway,
I kinda gave up in squash because my dog keep eating the fucking flowers(some people also use them in recipes, the dog has good taste), maybe i should gave it a try again.
