>>17935950>How do I into beginner engine maintenance? My mum's pressure washer has decided to stop working, and I want to fix it, but have no idea where to begin and not have it explode. What sort of pressure washer is it? If it's just a little petrol jobby pretty straight forward. Engine only needs a few things, compression, fuel, air and spark. Always try and find a workshop manual if you can.
You'll know if it has compression if you give it a good pull and there's some resistance there but it just doesn't come to life, no magical blue pill to fix it unfortunately, but odds are it'll be fine, if it's not it's probably beyond you at this point.
Give the air filter a clean because you've probably never fucking cleaned it you animal.
Check your spark plugs, they might be fouled, poorly gapped, just need a bit of cleaning with a wire brush or maybe replacing, just pull them out and try and start it, see if you can get them to arc to something and create a spark you're good, if not replace em. If you're still not getting any spark, you've got an electrical problem somewhere, so give the wiring a once over, check the switches etc
Next check your fuel, check your tank and make sure there's actually fuel in there, drain it and chuck some fresh shit in if it's been sitting for ages, make sure the tank isn't full of debris, has any blockages, check the fuel hose to your carby isn't cracked or leaking, now your carby might be a bit of a cunt, IF it's been sitting for a while the carby might be a bit gummed up, you can try blasting a bit of carby cleaner through it, but you *might* have to pull it out and take it apart to give it a good clean, but only do that as a last resort.
If you're pretty sure it has compression, fuel and spark, but just won't fire up, spray a bit of start ya bastard (or whatever the yank equivalent is) into the air cleaner and try a few more times.
