Am not debating the origins of writing itself, just the structures. If there is debate over the archeological origins of Egyptian writing I'm not surprised, much of ancient and pre-history is debated with a lot of unknowns.
It is true that cuneiform and hieroglyphics developed independently, and it is plausible that both arised independently around the same time.
