>>17229317Idk, the story and characters felt very cookie cutter to me when you boil them down (the whole "big sister" dynamic between the mc and the love interest and the bratty "kid sister" thing for example). I know that's kind of anime's thing and it's not bad if it's done right but it didn't feel very good here, more like they were trying to hedge their bets since they knew they would have to appeal to a broad audience with the game.
The only thing slightly original is the setting but instead of using the medium to explore things that couldn't be captured in the game world they relied on references a lot of the time. ("Remember that scene from the game's first mission? Well here it is on screen! And remember those giant floating fish? We have those too!!!" etc).
Trigger was still a decent choice for the studio but I swear their fight scenes start to blend together after you've seen a few of them and they've used the same spiky hair dude protag for their last several projects it seems like.
Anyway rant over. The visuals were still great and everything i guess, I just wish that wasn't the only good thing I had to say about it
