in terms of actual mechanics and doing carpentry we use a lot of imperial units which are quite helpful for trade work. The problem is for a lot of tools you need two sets of tools.
one bolt might be 10mm and another might be 1/4 inch. This can be quite annoying.
joules -> calories -> BTU
mile -> meter -> foot -> Deci-meter -> inches.
psig -> psia -> kpa
cubic meters -> gallons -> cubic decimeters(liter)
