also that makes me wonder, it's pretty interesting that you say york isn't even the largest city in the region anymore because that makes me wonder how cities' popularity or influence rise and fall over time. i have no idea how places like nyc or miami or milan or london or moscow or madrid became big cities or any of the older big cities whose status waned like york.
