but in most western cultures, women are doted on in certain regards, specifically physical and emotional expectations
not to mention getting captured means likely rape or ransom. not that a male soldier wouldn't be ransomed, but I think they'd think about that one a little bit harder than paying to get a female back intact
for that matter there's a simple size and build disparity that makes women inferior to men in the single most important aspect of soldiering: carrying heavy shit for long distances on foot
now that doesn't mean they have no place in the military, however. I mean, back in WW2 they managed to train blacks to drive trucks without stealing them after all!
