After the War Between the States ended. The Union and Confederate vets avoided a prolonged guerilla war and eventually the United States reformed. We honored both sides Veterans and they often attended each others reunion. men who were savagely killing each other, dropped their acrimony and tried to avoid war as much as possible, they were sick of it. A few old Confederate like Joseph Wheeler, rejoined the US Army in 1898 to help out with the Spanish American war. Now these Communist undo the peace and reconciliation, call Confederates "losers" and traitors, well they were all pardoned except Jeff Davis and are considered American Veterans.
