I've heard a few ideas about the Greys that people almost never discuss that I think might be worth sharing:
- The short ones might literally be children following their parents around
- They might not even be alive, they could be robots, explaining their lack of features and weird skin keeps debris out of their joints
- They could be aquatic, their skin is usually compared to dolphin skin, the general head shape is compared to turtles on rare occasions
- Usually depicted with very big eyes, which could make them very light-sensitive and easier for them to see at night, when they're usually encountered
- Telepathy doesn't disqualify them from being robots
- Some seem to have precognition, but it might simply be their own predictions, the vivid dream-like nature of telepathy doesn't guarantee it's true
