The assumption that the rate of atmospheric lighting strikes is consistent though out the history of our planet is wrong. If you've been paying attenti0n you'll notice upward traveling lighting rates are statistically increasing presently and the bullshit reason of "climate change" is bullshit. The frequency of lighting on Earth is directly correlated to solar event frequency. If the sun goes into an up mode say from charged matter streaming into the solar system (happening right now), one result would be a massive increase in lighting on Earth.
We see ample evidence that humans retreated into caves for likely days at a time with Turkish caves including enough room for an entire city. So imagine if the Earth has a period with increased lighting events. What do you do? Build a complex for people to live in the plateau. Do we see evidence of that? Yes. What do you need for healthy crops and to keep people from needing to live in caves? On good days you get out of your cave and you build a tall structure that lighting discharges on.
Considering the condition they are in, that was some pretty bad lighting. And present day we've seen satellite views of lighting traveling around what was it a 1000 miles? Even present day some of the bolts can do more then split a tree. Now crank that up just a bit and there's your explanation. They are lighting rods. Simple as.
