just imagine how much cool stuff more obscure scientists were doing back in the day that we don't know of before cameras or any defined scientific societies were invented so the only way to document your discoveries and observations was to physically write them down on paper in the age when every other human being was a retard and when you could just randomly die one day by some shitty disease which would cut you off prematurely from fully comprehending the things you were researching leaving all of that either to your relatives or some random people you knew that probably wouldn't understand a thing and eventually just throw away your life's works
