I've experienced dying in lucid dreams, without drugs, not sure it's accurate but here we go.
The perception of time fade in slow motion as the heartbeat goes down, it seems the heart is the point of focus when consciousness is loss.
So an instant death would be a fast ending. Life is music, a beat that may eventually stops and go elsewhere. I usually wake up at that moment.
