In every era, you have various power-hungry nutcases and prophets and futurologists that declare to us our Inevitable Future. The Inevitable Future is different from the inevitable future, because the inevitable future is what WILL happen, and the Inevitable Future is what people who CLAIM to know what the future will be. Just look at the 1939 world fair - how much of that came to pass? It's not even the smart ones who go around running their mouths like that. It's the shrewd ones. The people who really make the future ride the zeitgeist that's already there, do they not?
