I solved the fundamental problem of quantum field theory, pic related. That problem asks, "Why do we have the particles we have?" The standard model doesn't answer it. It takes the observed particles as an input and then predicts their interactions. However, QFT has a more fundamental goal than what is provided by the standard model: More importantly than what the fundamental particles do, why do we have the standard model particles and not some other random batches of groups of particles.
