>>21091011Yeah, that's right. I apologize if my grand ideas fuck anything up
>>21091015Nah, I don't shit where I eat. I'm still pretty new to the Lego space as an investment. Seems that set values double about every 6-8 years after retirement, which seems pretty average.
My angle is to have a very low cost basis, getting boxes that are in good shape (no stickers or EAS tags), and have been put onto second or final clearance. The advantage of working at WMT is that I can see what their margins are on their products (Lego usually retails for 25-30% profit there). By the time they're on second clearance, their margins are usually like -60% or more (eg a set that costs them $90 for a case of 3 and retails for $45 has gone on sale for $15 per unit)
They're quite illiquid and slow to move. I bought a set for $45 before Christmas and sold it on ebay for $135. Made a $6 profit after taxes, fees, and shipping (which they paid for). I actually ate a little bit on shipping because the box was larger than I expected. I ended up with around a 12-15% margin when all was said and done.
Usually I refer to the market price over retail price. For example $2,919.72 vs $2,724.34 = 7.2%
