Tesla frequently failed or refused to reproduce his own experiments and rarely subjected his hypotheses to rigorous testing. He dismissed the existence of the electron and the divisibility of the atom as nonsense, ignored emerging discoveries in plasma physics made by men like Irving Langmuir, simply because he didn't come up with them first, and dismissed the whole of relativity and quantum physics as mathematical fiddle-faddle despite the fact that most of these theories had experimental evidence supporting them by the 1900s and 1910s. Tesla spent the majority of his 50s and 60s in obscurity, occasionally swindling investors out of money in an effort to maintain the lavish lifestyle he'd grown accustomed to, and spent his 70s and 80s living in lonely squalor talking to birds in the park like a lunatic.
