the situation is a bit silly but obviously a large part of the problem is that coding is seen as a desirable position with upward trajectory so people are willing to put up with this shit because they plan to do CS forever and higher level positions will pay better, but delivering pizza is a dead end job nobody wants to do for 40 years even if the pay is better starting out.
it's particularly bad in CS because the people who were around when the narrative that CS is a super secure future proof field started have started to enter the job market
