When this famous pic first got published, the Marine at the front was misidentified. He's the one you can only see his butt. When his mother saw the photo, back in Texas, she said, "That's my son!," but everyone told her that she was crazy and she couldn't tell from the back and the Marines were saying it was someone else. Later, however, they fixed the error and the mother had correctly identified her son Harlan just from a grainy picture of his clothed butt.
As much time as the mother spent with the Marine that she was able to easily identify him, I spent at least that much time with Helene. On top of that, I don't have just one grainy photo. There's the wide hips, and the walk, and the gigantic hand on the screen, and the catchphrase, and the jigsaw doll, and Jigsaw squirelly eye, and probably a lot more stuff which escapes my recollection at the moment.
