They are and aren't good at engineering. They could come up with some pretty elaborate and ingenious designs/inventions. Then those dismal retarded soviets just took their tank armor, angled it to 30 degrees, and doubled the amount of steel an at-level round from an AT gun or enemy tank would need to penetrate to get through. This is something that didn't occur to the super genius Germans even with the Tiger I. Imagine a Tiger I with sloped frontal armor, it would have been even more effective.
The Panzer IV in the first winter in Russia needed their diesel engines running in order to power the electrical system which moved the turret. The temperature got so cold the fuel lines froze and their tanks were rendered useless at times. The T-34 in contrast had the ability to manually move the turret. There were no advanced optics, and early on they didn't have enough radios to go around. The only thing which kept the Germans afloat in 1 on 1 engagements with the T-34 in Barbarossa was their superior tactics, training, and communication. Once those started to break down the failings of the machines were obvious. The Germans are good engineers and they certainly are autistic, but in their history they've been BTFO by simplicity more than a few times.
