On the first of March people take these white and red tasseled strings (called a mărțișor) and pin them to people's chests. They're usually accompanied by a trinket, and the more expensive/unique the trinket is, the more you value the other person. So, for example, if you're twelve and you want to buy your waifu a trinket with the mărțișor you're going to spend ten times as much or get creative and add some handmade stuff.
In gets ridiculous in school/work environments, though, because every person pins one on the other, so you can be walking around with 30 of these at one time. Teachers usually bring something to pin them on instead because they receive so many.
