A poorly applied plug will hold air just long enough for you to assume it's cool before you have a nice surprise going 80mph down the interstate in the middle of hell.
The long term sound and correct way is to pull the tire off the wheel, patch from the inside, remount tire and balance. I said this is the easiest because it is for a tire shop. They have the good tools to do all this in a matter of minutes. It's more work for them to try plug from the outside.
