Hell, you could even say that most incels are just lonely guys with garbage self-esteem, and the wannabe rapists and school shooters are just a vocal minority. Thing is, vocal minorities tend to be able to influence things. Especially people's perceptions of a group. And if the non-extreme majority doesn't come out and say that most members of the community aren't like that then people will just assume that they are. And again, it applies to pretty much every community.
