When I was a toddler my Dad worked 2 states away and would frequently be gone for a week straight. When he did that my Mom would have her friend (female) from high school come over and stay with us because she was creeped out and bored staying alone. That's probably why Tay stays with Maria so much.
Also, I don't think she autism. Maybe low grade aspergers. She's definitely extremely socially awkward and aloof at times but that alone doesn't mean you have the 'tism.
