Sounds like you set goals for yourself based on other people's expectations, or what you imagine other people expect from you, as is often the case. Set your sights on something within your means to achieve, then work toward accomplishing that. If you fail, simply find another goal until you find something you can achieve. Small achievements like this are how you build self confidence without relying on external validation. It proves to yourself that you can do what you set your mind on doing. Mastery over your life begins with a realistic assessment of your abilities and then applying those abilities toward productive ends.
