I see women do the same thing with animals that have extremely visible deformities. Online or IRL stuff like pic related will always get comments and reactions like

Maybe a similar and more complicated version of that behavior works its way into social circles and results in the black girls getting propped up by their more attractive counterparts in an attempt of kindness.
