We can try to ignore the nuclearization of more small states but ultimately it just pushes the clock forward. With Iran getting their nuclear deal we have to account for more players. Appeal to more people. That's a lot of pressure to give out more resources and money to just keep things the status quo.
Honestly we need a widespread conflict just to try to start again or teach a lesson before fully mechanized warfare becomes a thing. Too many countries are cocky (USA) and need to be taken down a peg to set into motion the natural evolution of creating a hardy generation from this soft cucked society we've created.
