Subcultures need a safespace to thrive, otherwise they will be stratified by outsiders (destroyed) once they grow a little bit in popularity. This is why nothing creative and fresh comes out of this website anymore and why the userbase here became unable to form a collective and execute any coordinated action.
I'm a newfag myself (2013) but I remember things like HWNDU and I think the rise of the alt-right would not have been possible without this - as I said - former safespace, where contrary thoughts used to grow mostly undisturbed.
Nowadays for a majority of the time 4chan feels nothing different than the Yahoo News comment section.
