>these cats have never been close?i wasn't here when we got the newer cat, but i don't think so. we've had the older cat for years now. at some point we got a kitten and she was curious about him for a few days, then moved on to annoyance when he wanted to play all the time but it never got that bad. eventually the kitten ate something he shouldn't have and died while i was at school. they replaced the kitten with a new adult cat. apparently the original cat skipped annoyance and just hated her from day one, though the new cat still mostly just seems curious and defensive
i don't think it helps in both cases i doubt my parents introduced the cats the ""right"" way.
maybe i'll try to team up with my sister and do the meme of keeping them apart and all that
