usually if someone is a "good guy" it's because they've climbed to the top of a system that agrees with them, so they feel a sense of justice over their cause. if someone is a "bad guy" it's because they really don't care what anyone thinks of their actions anyway. this leads to really uptight good guys and really straightforward villains. with the child soldiers for example it ended up being npcs like this
>if a child is old enough to shoot a deer they're old enough to shoot a troll! surely you must see that leaving the children cowering in a hut would be an even crueler fate. this is our way of life now, it would be criminal to stop us!>yeah those guys have child soldiers so we steal their food. huh? oh yeah we could take out the trolls easy but that's not really our problem.ultimately the players did side with the villagers, but when actually interacting with the npcs generally they basically just respond to their tone rather than their actual actions
